Gujarat Launches New Infra Push for Dholera Smart City

The Gujarat government has announced a fresh infrastructure push for the rapidly developing Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), strengthening its position as one of India’s most ambitious smart industrial cities. The new developments focus on expressway connectivity, semiconductor infrastructure, industrial utilities, logistics, and social infrastructure aimed at accelerating investment and economic growth across the region.

According to recent announcements and budget allocations, the state has earmarked major funding for trunk infrastructure, industrial corridors, smart utilities, and transport networks that support the long-term expansion of Dholera SIR.

Expressway & Rail Connectivity Get Major Boost

A key highlight of the new infrastructure push is the progress of the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, a 109-km access-controlled corridor designed to reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to under one hour. The expressway is expected to become the backbone of industrial logistics and high-speed connectivity for the smart city region.

In parallel, the proposed Ahmedabad–Dholera semi-high-speed rail corridor has received fresh momentum, further improving connectivity for industries, employees, and cargo movement.

Semiconductor & Manufacturing Ecosystem Expands

Dholera continues to emerge as a strategic semiconductor and electronics manufacturing hub under India’s semiconductor mission. The Gujarat government is supporting infrastructure development around semiconductor projects, including utilities, clean-room support systems, industrial services, and workforce training facilities.

The region has also seen growing momentum in smart industrial parks, MSME ecosystems, renewable energy projects, and logistics infrastructure that are expected to create large-scale employment opportunities in the coming years.

Budget Allocation Strengthens Dholera Vision

The Gujarat Budget 2026 allocated approximately ₹610 crore specifically for Dholera infrastructure development, focusing on roads, utilities, drainage systems, public facilities, and industrial support infrastructure. Additional provisions include healthcare, schools, fire stations, desalination facilities, and smart urban systems.

Officials believe these investments will improve investor confidence and accelerate industrial occupancy in the activation area of Dholera SIR.

Airport & Green Energy Development Progressing

Construction work related to Dholera International Airport is also progressing steadily. The greenfield airport is expected to serve both industrial cargo and passenger traffic for the region’s growing manufacturing ecosystem.

At the same time, renewable energy infrastructure such as the Dholera Solar Park continues to strengthen Dholera’s positioning as a sustainable industrial city powered by clean energy.
