The Dholera Solar Park, a large-scale solar energy initiative, is being developed within the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat. Recognized as an Ultra Mega Solar Power Project by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, this ambitious project is set to achieve a total capacity of 5 GW by 2030.

Tata Power Solar, India's leading integrated solar energy company, specializes in designing customized solar power plant solutions. The company has successfully implemented over 17 large-scale solar projects across 13 states, contributing 1.5 GW of installed capacity.

The Gujarat government is actively supporting renewable energy expansion and has allocated a 60,000-hectare land parcel to establish what will be the world’s largest renewable energy park. On October 9, 2020, Tata Power Solar secured a 100 MW solar project in Dholera Solar Park through a competitive bidding process conducted by Gujarat Urja Nigam Limited (GUVNL) in March 2020. The project must be completed within 15 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Additionally, Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) will oversee the development of shared infrastructure for the solar park, ensuring efficient execution and integration of the project.

The Gujarat government has proposed the establishment of the world's largest solar power park, with a planned capacity of 4,400 MW at Dholera.

The Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) spans approximately 920 sq. km, out of which 520 sq. km has been allocated for urban development, while around 400 sq. km falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) near the Gulf of Khambhat.

The solar power park is expected to cover an area of about 8,594.95 hectares. Of this, 7,949.17 hectares fall within CRZ-1B, 204.34 hectares are classified under CRZ-III, 5.03 hectares are in CRZ-IVB, and 436.40 hectares lie in the non-CRZ zone.

After excluding restricted areas such as salt marshes, mudflats, mangroves, and mixed ecological regions, the total land available for solar park development is estimated at 8,594.95 hectares. The actual solar project is expected to occupy around 8,252 hectares of this land.

Strategically located, the site extends to the Gulf of Khambhat on its eastern boundary, while the Sukhbhadar River flows along its northern edge within the DSIR.

Environmental assessments confirm that there are no ecologically sensitive areas within a 2-3 km radius of the site. The nearest protected zone, the Velavadar Blackbuck Sanctuary, is approximately 4 km southwest of the closest solar plot.
